Shawl Weaving Artisan - Winding and Warping

Piecing of broken thread during winding

Objectives : At the end of this exercise you shall be able to

Requirements
Materials

• Hank yarn - as reqd.

PROCEDURE

Piece of broken end and restarting the machine
1 Stop the machine immediately when the thread 6 Gently pull the joined section to make sure it is

2 Locate both ends of the broken thread.

3 Cut the broken ends neatly with scissors to make
them smooth and easy to join.
4 Place the two thread ends close to each other so
they slightly overlap.

5 Twist the two ends together to create a smooth,
knot-free join. (Fig 1)

7 Restart the machine at a slow speed to ensure
smooth operation.
8 Watch the process to ensure the thread runs
smoothly without further breakages.
